The Miller Family | Midlothian, Virginia
There’s something special about photographing families who simply show up ready to enjoy being together.
When I met David, Stephanie, Micah, and Isaac for their family session, I knew right away this wasn’t going to be a "stand here and smile at the camera" kind of evening. They brought their personalities, their energy, and of course, their two lovable dogs along for the adventure.
We spent the evening wandering through the woods and open fields, capturing everything from classic family portraits to the moments that make this season of life uniquely theirs.
Micah and Isaac kept us moving all evening. Whether it was tossing a football, stepping up to the plate with a baseball bat in hand, or sharing laughs with their dad, their personalities came through in every frame. As a photographer, those are the moments I love most—the ones that feel less like a photo session and more like a family making memories together.
One of my favorite parts of the evening was watching David and Stephanie with the boys. There was an easy comfort between them that made photographing this family effortless. You can tell they've built a home filled with encouragement, laughter, and plenty of room for both kids and dogs to be themselves.
And speaking of dogs—family sessions are always better when four-legged family members join in. Their pups stole more than a few moments throughout the evening, adding the perfect amount of unpredictability and charm to the gallery.
As the sun began to settle behind the trees, we finished with some of my favorite images from the session: everyone gathered together in the field, smiling, laughing, and simply enjoying being in each other's company. Those are the photographs that matter years from now. Not because everything was perfectly posed, but because they tell the story of who this family is right now.
