From Family Property to City Point | Casey & Chris' Hopewell Engagement Session
Engagement sessions are always at their best when they feel personal.
For Casey and Chris, that meant spending the evening in places that have helped shape their story—from quiet moments on family property to finishing the night along the waterfront at historic City Point in Hopewell, Virginia.
From the very beginning, this session felt less like a photoshoot and more like an evening spent exploring some of their favorite places together.
We started beneath the trees, where the two of them walked hand in hand through winding paths and along the creek that runs through the property. There's something special about photographing a couple in a place that already means something to them. The images immediately feel more authentic because they're rooted in memories that existed long before I arrived with a camera.
As we moved throughout the property, Casey and Chris settled effortlessly into one another. Whether they were laughing beside the creek, stealing quiet moments beneath the trees, or simply enjoying the evening together, their connection was easy to photograph.
One of my favorite stops of the night was the flower field. Surrounded by late summer blooms, the session took on an entirely different feel—soft, colorful, and romantic. It was the perfect contrast to the wooded landscapes we had explored earlier in the evening.
We eventually made our way to City Point, where the waterfront provided a beautiful backdrop as the sun began to fade. Those final moments by the water always seem to slow things down a bit. Watching Casey and Chris sit together along the shoreline, you couldn't help but feel excited for everything that lies ahead for them.
We ended the evening back among historic buildings and weathered wood, capturing a few final portraits that felt timeless and fitting for a couple beginning a new chapter together.
